My response to the "unknown" emailer

Now the email I got was anonymous. I have a buddy named BUBBA. He just goes by that. I'll keep his true name private. It's sorta like knowing BATMAN's real name. BUBBA and I are great friends, but I'm not telling you his name.

Dear (BUBBA)

Thanks for the note.

I do wish I was smaller, it just seems to be a battle that I can not win.

I was able to shrink twice in my adult life.
1986, right out of college. I lost 60 pounds in less than 6 months. I was living at my parents place and looking for a job. Multiple things helped me shrink.
1. Gave up drinking
2. Walked the dog 2 or 3 times a day, 30-60 minutes at a time. Frisbee was a lean mean barking machine at the end of that summer!
3. Ride exercise bike for at least an hour a day.
4. Switched from Regular Cokes to Diet.

From 86 to 94 I stayed about the same, 270 plus or minus 20.

But by 95 I was 280-290.

So for round two, I gave up drinking. Didn't help.
Tried to increase my bike riding, but work kept getting in the way.

My doctor suggested a medical approach- FEN PHEN. I went from 290 to 219 in three months. 219 lasted about a day, and I then stayed at 240 or so once off the drugs for 6 months.

Then, June 1996, while riding my bike- DOG ATTACK. Concussion, Broken thumb, and a severely screwed up hip. If you ever notice me from behind in bike shorts, my left side is still slightly dented.

Not being able to ride for nearly 9 months, I went back up to 270. Stayed there from 96 to 2001. That was tough. After a club ride, everyone would go out for pizza or all you could eat spaghetti. I ate a salad. Frustrating.

2001 I hopped off the back of my pick up truck bed, Right foot landed and stayed fine, pointing at 12 o'clock. Left foot pointed to 4 o'clock, perhaps 5, o'clock. OUCH! Doctor said I did not tear anything, but did stretch and screw up things pretty darn well. Since that day, hills are a bitch. Stairs are a bitch. Getting up off the ground when camping is a bitch. I can ride a bike flat to rolling all day, but if you have to stand up to climb a hill, I have to walk due to the screaming knee. You may have noticed there are approximately a zillion hills in Cincinnati.

Since then, every year seems to add 10 pounds or so. Frustrating. With work taking more and more time, there just weren't enough hours to do everything I wanted. My free time is a constant competition for my time. Bike ride vs rental property work vs Party in the Park vs actual job work. I have decided in 2006 to take off every Friday afternoon this summer to do my rental work, and hopefully my yard work. Hopefully that will free up Saturdays for biking.

Now, BUBBA, I am wary of any operation. But I will hear you out. In a future email I will tell you of two co workers that had weight reduction surgery and how it affected them. One is 31 and on disability, the other is in her 50s and probably will be on disability soon.

But, please provide me some info. I'll be around the next few days, but will be in Louisville over the weekend. My mother is having eye surgery #3 and I am to be "Nurse John". If you get it to me before Thursday night, I'll print it out and look at it over the weekend.

Thankyaverymuch

JC
